Growing up in Northern Ireland does influence how you are, attitude, behaviour, thoughts and influences. I use the culture of my origin to illustrate my thinking. Big.......families, religious convictions, education, rural or urban or indeed both. All these shape the person you become but how many know the real person that lies within?
Somehow on our journey to adulthood we lose ourselves, lose sight of those all important values if indeed we even knew them, to help us keep boundaries. What? There are boundaries? What for, why do we have them?
Thats an important starting point to help address the 'Why Me' syndrome?
Does this ring a bell?
- insecurity
- Difficult relationships
- stress, anxiety
- Lack of direction
- Lack of fulfillment
- Money problems
We all have to find ourselves but if you find yourself thinking 'What happened to myself' or 'i used to do/love.......' and feel a sense of loss then its time to:
STOP, THINK, CHANGE
Use the self searching questions below as a starting point and write your answers in a journal
Think back to the earliest time when you stood up for a specific value in your life. (eg. Honesty. Commitment....)
Q; What or why did you have to do this?
Q: What was the outcome?
Q: What age or stage in life were you at?
Q: How you felt before and then after?
Q: How far from this have you strayed?
This exercise is only a start to help reconnect with your values and the real you.
Be HONEST with yourself when answering.
Love to hear back on how you found this exercise.
